Awards, Surgery, and a Freebie!

I received an award from Jackie at Second is So Sweet and now I get to pass it on to some other fabulous blogs!

I'm going to pass it on to a few blogs

Melanie @ Frog Spot

Teri @ A Cupcake for the Teacher

Michelle @ The 3AM Teacher

Christina @ Mrs. Bainbridge's Class

Kristin @ A Teeny Tiny Teacher

Well this week we did our contraction surgery lesson.  Oh my goodness the kids loved it!  I am so thankful for stores like Dollar Tree that make being a teacher a little easier on the pocket books.  I am also very thankful to our janitorial staff for supplying me with some gloves and for taking some group pictures.

I put their patients and band-aids all grouped in a zip-loc bag and then put them on their desk.  The band-aid acted as their apostrophe in hindsight I might put like contractions together but I admit I was very excited about this lesson I had looked forward to it all week.  The kids even went and got our principals and they LOVED the lesson as well :).  I made them all name tags that had their name as a doctor.  They called me Dr. Harris which was cute!  We called their worksheets I made charts which they knew all about already of course!  I was just amazed at how well this lesson went and how much they loved it.  It was one of my favorites and I will definitely do it for years to come!  Below is a brief slideshow of the activity:

I created a spring word scramble which you can grab here for free from my TPT Store

I am also going to put the contraction surgery worksheet up as well.  It is very plain I'm sure I will cutesy one up in the future!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.  I know I have a busy one ahead of me with cheer uniform fittings, and various activities.  It is definitely getting close to the end of the year!

I'm back

First of all I'm excited because there is a K-2 linky party hosted by Jeannie at Kindergarten Lifestyle!  I love being able to find all kinds of blogs with great ideas!  You can click below to join the fun too!

So since I have been M.I.A. for over a week now...(Spring Break and no internet)  I missed being away and seeing everything I feel so behind right now!  However it was kind of nice to detox myself from it.  Of course I had my trusty iPhone so it wasn't a complete detox but it just wasn't the same!  While I was M.I.A.  I gained some new followers which always makes me happy I feel like I'm starting to "make it" in the blog world!  I'm only 6 away from 30!  I never thought I would reach 10 let alone the 24 fabulous followers I have now!  Another thing that helped me feel very accomplished is the fact that I received an award from 2 different blogs!  I was so stinkin' excited it was a very big deal to me.  I have to thank Krista at 2nd Grade Superkids and Keri at Teach~Play~Smile for awarding me this :)

This is encouraging to me.  It makes me feel like I am doing something right and so now it is my turn to pay it forward.  The rules are you must link back & follow t the blogs that awarded you and you pass it on to 15 "lovely" blogs.  I'm not going to pass it on to 15 I am going to pass it on to 5 blogs that I think are just LOVELY!  A lot of these ladies have already received this award numerous times!  They are very deserving of it!

1.  Heather @ Heather's Heart
2.  Stacy @ 2nd Grade Paradise
3.  Kelley @ Buggy for Second Grade
4.  Amy @ Step into second grade
5.  April @ Wolfelicious!

Today is my last day of Spring Break boooo!  I am excited to see the Mon-"stars" this week and we are doing contraction surgery on Friday!  I am so excited!  I have shower caps and masks...I'm super pumped those kids better watch out or I may steal their goodies!  I thought I would leave you with a little something I had the kids do while I was out last Friday.  I found the idea at the First Grade Parade and I know I will use it for a very long time!  This one was my favorite just because of it's ridiculousness.  I was apparently in the woods with him while he was fighting Mega-tron because of course he is Optimus Prime :) I mean look at the name line! I LOVE IT!

For some reason my computer is having techinical difficulties with photos today.  Please look at the answer of how you can tell the head is a circle.  I LAUGHED SO HARD!  It was like it was straight out of those funny e-mails of students work that we get.

I am sorry for the long post!  I have another question.  Is there any easy way to make blog buttons and signatures at the bottom of a blog?  I want to make one/learn how to make them so I can be like the cool kids.  Any input it greatly appreciated.  I hope everyone has a great week and I hope to have some great surgery pics.!

Currently!

First of all welcome to my new followers!  This makes me so happy!  I never in a million years thought people would actually be reading this!
Oh my goodness my kids are so antsy for Spring Break, and I'm not going to sit here and act like I'm not!  I am definitely looking forward to a week of slight nothingness.  Our school also has our calendar figured out to where we have every other Friday in May off!  After Spring Break other than good Friday this is all I have left to look forward to.  I've been rather creative this morning well creative for me at least.  I've created patterns for my kids to create leprechauns I will post them later this week to let you see how they turned out.  I even created background patterns for writing prompts.  I'm rather impressed with my little creative bug.

I'm linking up with Farley for the Currently of March post
I've only done a link up post twice now but for some reason I LOVE them they are a lot of fun!

Did I mention Fonzi is in my class?  Yes I'm not kidding who knew an 8 year old knew who he was and thinks he's cool!  I also had Ace Ventura pet detective.  Those are stories for another time!  Happy Monday!

T.G.I.F

I don't know about ya'll but man it was a week!  I had 3 out pretty much every day except for Thursday (which was a half-day) and today!  Monday was pretty laid back and quiet the week didn't get slammed until Tuesday.

Tuesday we had STAAR training and all I can say is man oh man am I glad I don't have any kids that are being tested!  I have to prepare them for next year but still it's nice not to have that added pressure!  I also had to prepare for my evaluation Wednesday along with morning duty.  I have no idea why, but I was extra nervous about this evaluation.

Tuesday was also my "dogter" Bernice's birthday :)  Yes, I am one of those nuts that treats their dog exceptionally well.  However she does not wear clothes mainly because she is a self proclaimed nudist.  Anytime I ever put any clothing item on this dog she will have it off in 5 seconds.  Therefore I say she is a self proclaimed nudist.  She turned 2 on Tuesday and here is a quick picture!

I have seen so many cute Suess things!  I have decided that next year I will definitely be participating in celebrating his birthday!  Everything was so cute and I definitely had Seuss envy all week!

Wednesday as I said was my evaluation.  I still don't exactly know how it went but hopefully it went okay.  My technology just wouldn't warm up even my stolen  borrowed ELMO had a hard time warming up.  I assure you it never has before but of course the day of an evaluation it would.  I used my geoboard and it seemed to be a big hit so crossed fingers and prayers are appreciated.

Thursday was a half day it was A-MAZING!  I got so many things accomplished hardly any of my kiddos showed up but thankfully the ones that I needed to visit with did :)  I finished next week's lesson plans, copies, and even laminated things.  Yes I Emily laminated something instead of just assuming I could reprint it later.  I am not very talented at using a laminator in the first place (if that is a talent which I think it is!) and our laminator at my school well let's just say it's a challenge to use.  The only cool thing about it is that it is purple.  My third grade teacher friend and I also got our field trip planned and we decided on the Dallas World Aquarium!  I am PUMPED I love manatees and I get to see them again!

Today was a disaster in a nut shell.  I was exhausted and probably a bit cranky, but it was a long day!  I had one of my students tell me he had sexy legs today.  I'm not going to lie I about peed myself I was laughing so hard.  He said it out loud in class and everyone was freaking out all I could do was tell him that was probably not the best choice of words.  This then sent several children into singing I'm sexy and I know it.  I'm not going to lie I find just about everything that this child says/does HILARIOUS and I have a hard time getting on to him because I just crack up.  Any suggestions on how to remedy that?
For math today since my c-scope was a 2 day lesson (I don't like breaking things up like that over the weekend) we made shape monsters.  We made them out of construction paper and then wrote what shapes we used and totaled the polygons at the bottom.  I used a catchy little title but now looking back at it I'm not sure it was entirely appropriate?  Thoughts?  Here they are:  I got my lovely background in the first picture from the lovely 3AM Teacher I LOVE her stuff!

The kids enjoy creating things.  They told me today that they love doing fun projects at least once a week!  It makes me feel good that I have started doing more activities with them.  I feel like a more effective teacher.  I am so thankful to everyone who shares their ideas and such so I am trying to pay it forward a bit.

I also wanted to share this web site I LOVE IT I love the noises it makes etc. best of all it is free.  I used it a lot when I taught tech. apps and the kids loved it!  I moved it up to 2nd grade and they love it as well.

I'm going to be out next Friday and I'm very excited about it.  Mainly because I am not telling the kids I am going to be gone so I can use one of the fabulous Cara Carrolls activities of What happened to Ms. Harris?  I will be posting those sometime soon!

Since I am going to be out that Friday I want to keep them busy with fun/easy to do independently St. Patty's day activities.  Does anyone have any tips?  I've already used Shamrocks and Smiles from Today in Second Grade and it looks adorable!  Any ideas are greatly appreciated!  I also wanted to say Hello to my new followers and that I hope you find something useful here!

 Have a fabulous weekend!
